Logan City Council provides financial relief

When I announced my candidacy in October last year, I committed to working with other Councillors to bring in measures to give ratepayers financial relief (freezing rates and charges for the full term), with or without a virus, because I knew we had to stimulate our local economy.

It is a shame that it has taken a National Emergency for Logan City Council to now put in measures to help people financially, when so many have needed this relief A LOT earlier.

This is what I call reactive leadership and not proactive leadership.

Here is a list of the new changes that may provide some relief to you, during this time:

  • An extra 4-month interest free period on rates/charges from April-June
  • Contractors to be paid by Council in 14 days
  • A 50% refund on operational license fees paid since July last year for hospitality, food operators, hotels, motels, manufacturers and others
  • Fees waived for any license applications for industries listed above, that were received up until 31 August
  • Lease fees stopped for 3 months for external operators managing council properties and venues
  • Not-for-profit organisations who lease one of Council’s community-leased venues won’t have to pay license fees this year
  • Organisations which lease a council-owned community facility and have less than 15 gaming machines will have their remissions increased to 100 per cent for the January to March billing period
  • Financial relief for more than 180 sport, recreation and community organisations within Logan that have memberships in excess of 40,000 people, through lease fee waivers

The Council will also direct $200,000 from the Community Project Grands budget into an Emergency Relief Fund.

As you Mayor, I will work with all elected Councillors to provide further relief for Logan residents, ratepayers and business operators.
